LECANTO -- The second Seven Rivers Christian School senior class will graduate tonight as 18 students receive their diplomas.

Unlike the public high schools, which have abandoned the traditional valedictorians and salutatorians for the cum laude system, Seven Rivers has chosen two students with high grade point averages, Julie Green and Sean Donovan, to speak at tonight's ceremony. Sean, 17, is the valedictorian. His GPA is 4.0. He has been a student at SRCS since the middle of his junior year. He came from Lecanto High School and said he is glad he made the switch.

"I'm very, very happy," he said. Sean may have lost some opportunities by making the move, but that hasn't been a concern for him. "What you lose, you make up with the environment and the teachers," he said.

Sean will attend the University of Florida and is interested in engineering. "I think I'm going to do mechanical engineering or electrical engineering as a major," he said.

Sean is the son of Michael and Debra Donovan.

Julie, 18, is the salutatorian and has a grade point average of 3.75. She has been at Seven Rivers since the beginning of her formal education. "I think it's been a good place for me," she said. "This place has been like a family to me."

Like Sean, Julie's plans include college. She will attend the University of Central Florida. "Really, I'm very excited," she said. "I'll miss the people, but it'll be a good experience.

"I'm not positive what I'll be studying yet, but I'm thinking about education or public relations," she said.

Julie is the daughter of Stuart and Leslie Green.
