Memorial Day celebration
A Memorial Day salute and celebration featuring an afternoon of entertainment will start at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Westin Innisbrook Resort, 36750 U.S. 19, Palm Harbor. The day will include cocktails, dinner, a memorial service and a performance by vocalists. Leading the ceremonies and activities will be Pinellas County Veteran's Liaison Council Honor Guard led by David Hanson, commander; David Miller, representative of the National POW-MIA Organization and president of the Pinellas County Veteran's Liaison Council who will conduct a POW-MIA ceremony; and William Sharrett, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Afterward, the 42nd Street Big Band and Vocalists will perform, featuring the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman. Tickets cost $28, and advance reservations are required. The Royalty Theatre will host its first film festival featuring six short films, including One More Second, Video Daze, A Walk in the Park and a 1920 silent western movie, among others, beginning today. The festival will begin at 7 tonight with an opening ceremony and a king, queen, prince and princess pageant. One thousand dollars in cash and prizes will be awarded to winners. The dress is formal, roaring '20s or Hollywood style. Tickets cost $10 to $25. At 6 p.m. Saturday, there will be a film presentation featuring comedies, dramas, musicals and documentaries. Tickets cost $5 to $15. At noon Sunday, there will be a Hollywood dance showcase featuring tap, jazz, ballet and ballroom steps. At 7 p.m., there will be a closing ceremony and awards presentation.
