Berkeley Prep's Ty Harris, the nation's 61st-ranked junior golfer, signed a letter of intent recently to attend NCAA Division II runner-up West Florida.

Harris, the Times 2000 Hillsborough County Player of the Year, earned All-America status by finishing eighth at the National High School Invitational Golf Championship.

He also won the Crutchfield Junior Citrus and International Naples Junior tournaments, qualifying him for the prestigious Orange Bowl International, where he placed in the top one-third.

Harris holds the record for the Sam Parks North Florida PGA Junior Invitational, where he shot a course-record 64.

He also holds the Hillsborough County EPIX Award for lowest stroke average by finishing the high school season with an under-par average, which included a medalist score of 66 to win the Hawkins High School Invitational.

Golf

The Jefferson Football Booster Club is sponsoring the Dragon Celebrity Golf Tournament on Friday at Lost Oaks-Innisbrook in East Lake. Registration begins at noon with the shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. The fee is $100 per player. For information, call (813) 901-5215.

Baseball

The Dunedin Blue Jays will host a high school home run derby Friday, featuring players from area schools. The contest begins at 5 p.m., to be followed by the Jays' 6:30 game against Jupiter.

One senior representative from each area high school is eligible to compete.

Admission for all students with a high school ID is free.

Summer Camps

The Tampa Prep Summer Program is accepting applications for its various camps. The cost for all camps is $125 per week.

Girls volleyball will have two camps. The first will be from 1 to 4 p.m. June 11-15 followed by another June 18-22 at the same times. The camp, focusing on skill development through matches and drills, will be run by Holly Santos, Tampa Prep's middle school coach.

The girls basketball camp will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 25-29. Coach Suzanne Marfise will run the camp.

Baseball coach A.J. Hendrix will run two camps. Seventh- through 10th-graders will receive instruction from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 11-15. Players in fourth through sixth grades will play from 1 to 4 p.m. on the same days.

Middle school wrestling coach Bruno Quattrone will hold two camps, June 18-22 and June 25-29. Both sessions will be held from 1 to 4 p.m.

Joe Fenlon will lead two boys basketball camps for students in grades 6-10. The first camp will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 18-22, and the second will be from 1 to 4 p.m. June 25-29.
