Music business updates its name
To commemorate his 18th year of business, Nick Sorace has decided to change the name of his music store at 6712 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, from the Record Exchange to the Disc Exchange. "We decided we wanted to reflect what is actually being done here," says Sorace, 42. The Disc Exchange will continue to sell new compact discs, videos, T-shirts as well as handling trade-ins on old music. Since first opening the store at 6712 Central Ave., Sorace's retail space has grown from 800 squarefeet to more than 3,000 square feet. "We started as one storefront and we've spread to include four," says Sorace.
James C. Runyon has received the David L. Stout Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award through the Community Law Program in St. Petersburg. Runyon, a St. Petersburg lawyer, has been working with the Community Law Program since 1996 and has donated 234 hours to the organization providing services to low-income families. He also works with the Guardian Ad Litem program.
Mid-Day Business and Professional Women's Club of St. Petersburg has installed officers for 2001-2002. Luisa Perez-Harvey, co-owner and vice president of H.C.H. Co., a third-party administrator firm in St. Petersburg, and Paula Popovich, a partner with Gregory, Sharer & Stuart, an accounting firm in St. Petersburg, have been named co-presidents. Cory Adler-Leidersdorff, executive director of Pinellas Habitat for Humanity Inc., has been named president-elect.
Amy Nolan has been named curator of education for the St. Petersburg Museum of History. Nolan is a doctoral candidate in American History at American University in Washington, D.C. Before joining the museum, Nolan received a bachelor of arts in history at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, and a master's degree in art, with an emphasis on civil rights, at Clemson University in South Carolina.
William H. Griffith, general manager of The Pier in St. Petersburg, has been named affiliate member liaison to the board of directors for the Florida Attraction Association. This is the first year the association has had an affiliate member liaison, which is considered part of the leadership team but does not vote.
