NEW SAC SOFTBALL ALIGNMENT

Because the SAC recently expanded to nine teams with the addition of Wesley Chapel last year and Mitchell this year, the softball coaches voted to split the conference into two divisions for purposes of determining the winner of the conference crown.

Starting next season, the winner of the East division will meet the winner of the West division in the SAC championship game. The No. 2 teams in each division will meet to decide the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in the conference. Each team will leave a date open for a game to be held after the end of the regular season and before the start of the district tournaments.

If the format proves popular, coaches in other sports could vote to have their SAC championships determined in a similar fashion.
