Calhoun, Phillips commit to collegesBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published May 30, 2000 Shomari Calhoun of St. Petersburg Catholic has signed to play basketball with Talladega College, an NAIA school in Alabama. Calhoun, a 6-foot-5 forward, was a two-year starter for the Barons and led the team in rebounding the past two seasons. This season he averaged 10 points and 8.8 rebounds and was an honorable mention all-county selection in helping SPC to an 18-10 record. Tiffany Phillips of East Lake has signed to play softball with St. Petersburg Junior College. Phillips, a catcher, helped lead East Lake to the Class 5A, District 10 title this season, batting .290 with seven stolen bases and compiling a .968 fielding average.
