TAMPA -- A few weeks after Brandon coach Greg Parris resigned, one of Parris' assistants, Mike Bell, was hired.

Bell served with Parris for just one year, but Bell's experience runs deep.

He played at Sarasota Riverview in the early 1990s, pitched for Florida State in the College World Series ('94 and '95) and played Double-A ball for Montreal and Baltimore until last year.

"Now I'm just looking forward to carrying on the great Brandon baseball tradition," Bell said.

"I'm real excited because we have a great group of kids coming back next year (18 of 20 players). We also have some real talented young guys coming in."

Bell, 28, teaches at Seffner Elementary but will teach physical education at Brandon this fall.

"(Bell) reminds me a lot of a younger Greg Parris," Brandon athletic director Mike Burnett said. "(Bell) is very knowledgeble, organized and enthusiastic. We feel very fortunate to have him on our staff."
