FEB. 24, 1941: Born in Albertville, Ala.
JAN. 1, 1962: Lineman on Alabama team that beats Arkansas 10-3 to clinch 1961 national championship.
DEC. 17, 1968: Named coach at Jacksonville (Ala.) State.
DEC. 1, 1976: Named coach at Clemson.
DEC. 30, 1977: Clemson plays first post-season game since 1959, losing 34-3 to Pitt in Gator Bowl.
DEC. 4, 1978: Resigns at Clemson to accept coaching position at Florida. (On Dec. 29, with Danny Ford coaching, Clemson beats Ohio State 17-15 in Gator Bowl.)
SEPT. 22, 1979: In Pell's second game (and only non-loss of the season), Gators tie Georgia Tech 7-7.
SEPT. 13, 1980: First win as UF coach, 41-13 over California at Tampa Stadium.
DEC. 20, 1980: Florida beats Maryland 35-20 in Tangerine Bowl at Orlando, first Gators post-season game in four seasons.
SEPT. 15, 1984: Gators beat Tulane 63-21 in Pell's final game as coach.
FEB. 2, 1994: Fails in suicide attempt.
MARCH 22, 1995: Named first coach of Lake Region High at Eagle Lake.
