CRYSTAL RIVER -- Three Crystal River High School graduates will be attending universities on ROTC scholarships.

William Daniel, 17, was offered two scholarships, one from the U.S. Navy and one from the U.S. Army. He chose to go with the Army and will attend the University of Tampa. The ROTC scholarship will pay for tuition, books, supplies and lab fees. The University of Tampa, he said, will provide room and board.

Daniel plans to major in sociology and wants to go into public service after he finishes his four years of active duty in the Army. After serving in the regular Army, he will be in the Army Reserve for four years.

He has a 3.97 grade point average and is the son of Robert and Pam Daniel of Crystal River.

Edmonds, 17, is accepting a Naval ROTC Scholarship and will attend Fordham Unversity in New York City. He plans to study physics and perhaps go into engineering. Edmonds, an active swimmer, says he chose Fordham because of the swimming program, the quality of the school and the city.

"I've done the small town atmosphere," he said. "I'd like to try something new and different and New York will provide that."

He will serve as a naval officer for four years after college graduation and be in the reserve for four additional years.

Edmonds has a 4.18 GPA and is the son of Ray and Brenda Edmonds of Crystal River.

Preston, 18, will attend the University of Florida on a Naval ROTC Scholarship. He plans to study physics and says he would like to be on nuclear submarines and try a Navy career.

Preston has a 4.236 grade point average and is the son of Jim Preston of Inverness and Sheree Preston of Homosassa.
