Jason Robert Anderson was driving a 1990 Nissan at "excessive speed" at 11 p.m. Tuesday night, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said. Anderson, who was driving south on U.S. 19, struck a 1997 Infiniti, also headed south. The right front of the Nissan struck the left rear of the Infiniti, a report said. The impact of the crash caused Anderson's car to veer across the median, flip and come to rest in the northbound turn lane of U.S. 19, troopers said. Anderson and his passenger, Anthony T. Buonaiuto, 25, also of Spring Hill, were ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the Infiniti, John E. Murray of Port Richey, was not injured in the crash. Anderson and Buonaiuto were flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Anderson died Wednesday, said authorities, and Buonaiuto was listed in critical condition. The FHP could not provide addresses for any of the people involved and still is investigating the crash. Bank robber gets 20-year sentenceNEW PORT RICHEY -- A man convicted earlier this year of robbing a Port Richey bank in 1999 has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. William Michael Curran, 39, received the lengthy sentence, which also includes five years of probation, on Friday after he was certified as a habitual offender because of his extensive criminal record. Circuit Judge William Webb had wide latitude in sentencing Curran: State guidelines called for a minimum of less than three years in prison and a maximum of 30 years. Curran was convicted in February of robbing the AmSouth Bank on Embassy Boulevard on Nov. 30, 1999. He passed the teller a note demanding money and escaped with $3,350. Curran, who has AIDS, continues to maintain his innocence, prosecutor Tom Stathopoulos said. At trial, Curran blamed his former landlords for his arrest, arguing that they turned him in because they feared he had contaminated the mobile home he rented from them. Curran, who still faces a pending bank robbery charge in Pinellas County, has prior convictions for aggravated assault, battery on a law enforcement officer, burglary, resisting arrest with violence and carrying a concealed weapon, records show. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
