School workers union approves contractBy Times staff writers © St. Petersburg Times, published June 1, 2000 INVERNESS -- Citrus support personnel voted 240-8 this week to ratify their first three-year contract with the school district. "We're really pleased," said Fran Sanschagrin, spokesperson for the union, which represents the district's secretaries, clerical workers and teacher aides. The contract will bring retroactive pay raises of 30 cents per hour for the 1999-2000 school year. Next year the workers will get increases of 35 cents an hour in addition to their standard pay increase for another year of experience. The contract also includes some language gains for the workers including a grievance process with binding arbitration and specific rules on leaves and working conditions. The School Board must still formalize the contract, and that is expected later this month.
