System for state to process child support in effect todayBy JORGE SANCHEZ © St. Petersburg Times, published June 1, 2000 INVERNESS -- Citrus residents who either pay or receive child support will have a new system of sending the money this month. A letter from Clerk of Courts Betty Strifler's office was sent out Monday, notifying people who pay or receive child support that the state will now handle the payments. The state disbursement system takes effect today, and it includes direct deposit options for people receiving child support and a voice mail program to answer questions. All child support payments for Citrus County will be sent to the Florida Central Disbursement Unit. The unit will process incoming payments and mail out the checks, usually the same day they arrive. The address is: State of Florida Central Disbursement Unit P.O. Box 8500 Tallahassee, FL 32314-8500 A toll-free telephone response system is now operating and can be reached at (877) 769-0251. The system will track incoming payments and outgoing checks and provide information on a variety of child support questions. A touch-tone telephone is required. © St. Petersburg Times.
