© St. Petersburg Times, Martial artsVadha Martial Arts in Floral City is having a Vadha Federation seminar Saturday and Sunday. The seminar, which will bring top Vadha-style instructors in from across the country, will be hosted by Brian Wyka. Jack McCrave Sr., and Michael Wyka -- the highest-ranking members in the Vadha style of martial arts -- will be among the teachers. McCrave Sr. is the art's grandmaster. Among the topics featured will be breakfalls and takedowns, attack patterns, mental discipline, offensive techniques and defensive parries. Vadha is considered a "soft" style in that it seeks to redirect the force of an opponent's attack, rather than confront it. However, the art's attacks are potent. "This is a great introduction to Vadha and its history," Brian Wyka said. "Not many people know what it's about or what it is. The physical side will be taught, but we're hoping (the instructors) elaborate more on the mental aspects." Saturday's session is 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The Sunday session is 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. For information, call Brian Wyka, (352) 344-5882.
