It's June and that means it's time for Round 2 of the annual principal shuffle. Each summer, retirements, transfers and the openings of new schools force several Pasco County school principals into new jobs.

This year's latest moves affect principals at four elementary schools: West Zephyrhills, Mary Giella, Richey and San Antonio. Six principals changed jobs earlier this year, mainly because of the construction of three new schools.

Jean Johnson, who has been principal at San Antonio Elementary for 10 years, is retiring July 2. District administrators are recommending she be replaced by Eva Hunsberger, who is principal at Mary Giella in Shady Hills. Hunsberger has been Mary Giella's principal since 1998. She previously worked at Woodland and Centennial elementary schools.

Madonna Wise, principal at West Zephyrhills Elementary School, has taken a district office job overseeing grants. She had been at West Zephyrhills for four years, and is likely to be replaced by Emily Keene, principal at Richey Elementary in New Port Richey.

Keene was named Richey's principal two years ago after working as an assistant principal at Shady Hills and Denham Oaks elementary schools.

The moves leave vacancies at Richey and Mary Giella. School officials said they hope to have those jobs filled before summer school starts June 18. The School Board is expected to approve the latest round of new principals at a meeting Tuesday. Their vote will bring to eight the number of principals who have changed jobs since December.
