The Homosassa River will be filled with all types of funny-looking homemade rafts Saturday for the annual Homosassa River Raft Race.
The fun begins at KC Crump Restaurant and Ramshackle Cafe on the River, 11210 W Hall River Road.
The Iron Man contest, featuring lots of hunky, bronzed young men, will begin at noon. Then bikini-clad women take the main stage along the river for the Miss Hawaiian Tropic contest.
The raft race begins at 2 p.m. Rafters aboard all manner of craft will make the short sprint from the KC Crump boat docks and back after circling Monkey Island. An awards ceremony will be held at 4 p.m.
KC Crump and Ramshackles Cafe will offer hamburgers, hot dogs, fish dinners and barbecued chicken and pork. Most are available at the outdoors vending station. The grounds also have a large wooden deck and tiki bar.
The annual event resembles an MTV beach party, with a crowd of about a thousand.
Parking is $2. Admission to the raft race is $3. A free shuttle will take people from KC Crump to Old Homosassa. Call the restaurant at 628-1500 for information.
