Student achieversBy Times staff reports © St. Petersburg Times, published June 2, 2001 Local students earn national citizen awardsTwo Highland Christian Academy students won honors in the Daughters of the American Revolution National American Citizens Contest. First-grader Kevin Cregan earned second place and second-grader Paul Fack earned third place for essays about the historical importance of American monuments. Kevin is the son of Kevin and Nancy Cregan of Palm Harbor and Paul is the son of William and Lisa Fack of Dunedin. The purpose of the award is to encourage good citizenship, service and patriotism. Italian American Club awards scholarshipsAmy Renee Luce of St. Petersburg High School's International Baccalaureate program and Meghan Rose Musacchia of Clearwater Central Catholic School received $1,000 scholarships from the Italian American Club of Greater Clearwater to cover college expenses. Luce served as National Honor Society vice president and Model United Nations Club secretary general. She is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the Spanish Honor Society and has been featured in Who's Who Among American High School Students. She has volunteered at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines and was named volunteer of the year by the Seminole Community Teen Board. She plans to attend Stetson University and pursue a career in dentistry. She is the daughter of Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Richard Luce and Paula Luce of Seminole. Musacchia is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honors Society, National Art Honor Society, Earth Awareness Club and Model United Nations Club. She served as Math Honor Society president and International Club secretary. She has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She plans to attend the University of Florida and major in journalism or premed. She is the daughter of Matthew and Janice Musacchia of Clearwater. Students honored for public speaking skillsSeven area pupils won recognition at the 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking Contest. Elementary School winners were: first place, Samantha Wilber of Wellington School; second place, Blair Crombie of Melrose Elementary School; third place, Mark Morrison of St. Cecelia's Catholic School; and fourth place, Vincent Montemarano of Guardian Angels Catholic School. Middle school winners were: first place, Sarah Cornacchione of Trinity Christian School; second place, Lauren Dellert of Wellington Middle School Campus; and third place, Joshua Linder of Pinellas County Jewish Day School. Post announces essay and service awardsAmerican Veterans Post 2473 named the winners of the AMVET Essay and AMVET Junior ROTC contests. National essay contest winners were Charlton McFadden II and Jeremy McGahan of Clearwater Discovery School. Veterans Day essay contest winners were Alicia Duncan and Brian Chadwick of Largo Middle School. And Junior ROTC medal winners were Matt Orth of Clearwater High School and Jason Cappiello of Dunedin High School.
