Largo man hit by car while running from police
SEMINOLE -- A 21-year-old Largo man was hospitalized Friday after being hit by a car while running from police, authorities said.
Hugh I. Mills of 11188 126th Ave. N was hit about 4:45 p.m. on Park Boulevard at Starkey Road, deputies said. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with a broken leg and other injuries.
A Pinellas sheriff's deputy stopped the truck that Mills was riding in because it had a broken brake light, said sheriff's spokeswoman Marianne Pasha.
As the deputy began checking identification of three people in the truck, Mills jumped out and ran north across Park, where he was hit by a Jeep Cherokee, Pasha said.
Deputies found that Mills was wanted on outstanding felony warrants for marijuana possession and violating his probation.
PINELLAS PARK -- A two-alarm fire broke out in a warehouse full of beauty care products Friday evening, but the fire was confined to an office.
Neighboring businesses reported the fire about 5:40 p.m. at the warehouse at 3899 Ulmerton Road, just south of St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport. The warehouse had closed for the day about a half-hour earlier.
An electrical short started the fire, which caused an estimated $60,000 worth of damage to the business, said District Chief Lou Sclafani of the Pinellas Park Fire Department.
