Jeff Young from Pinellas County Sunstar paramedic ambulance service is Pinellas County's 2001 emergency medical technician of the year.

A supervisor in Sunstar's materials division, Young spends three days a week in the field answering emergency calls. He was instrumental in organizing a quality assurance program in his division.

Sandy Walker is Pinellas County's 2001 paramedic of the year. Employed in the office of the medical director, Walker was cited for outstanding performance as an emergency medical dispatcher for Sunstar. She works closely with Sunstar's Explorer program, which teaches young people age 14 to 21 the fundamentals of emergency services work in anticipation of careers in the emergency medical services field.

The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners honored Young and Walker as part of the county's celebration of emergency medical services week at its May 22 commission meeting.
