"Seniors, your education will play an important role in shaping your lives as you face the 21st century," said the school's head, Mary Harden Booker. "The life paths you follow will be divergent and multiple. The only constancy you will face is the constancy of change."

Twenty-four of the graduates began their Shorecrest education in either prekindergarten or the first grade. One of those students, Neha Subhash Shah, was named the valedictorian for the Class of 2001.

"Leaving Shorecrest is like an amputation. It has been part of my life for 14 years," Shah said, giving her classmates one last message. "Do not be afraid to take a risk. It is okay to give up the good for the chance to be greater. Anything is possible if you have a dream. As long as you reach for the stars, you'll never get your hands dirty."

Shah was also named the Shorecrest Outstanding Senior. Lauren LaFrance Painter was named the class salutatorian.

Shah has been accepted at Washington University, while Painter plans to attend Washington and Lee University.

Ten members of the graduating class earned high honors.

For nearly half the students in the Class of 2001, the school is the only one they've ever attended.

"Your education is never finished," were the greeting words for Shorecrest Preparatory School's 50 graduating seniors Saturday at Crisp Gymnasium in St. Petersburg.
