'To The Contrary' features Thurman

INVERNESS -- U.S. Rep. Karen Thurman, D-Dunnellon, will be featured on To The Contrary, a national program scheduled for noon today on WUSF-Ch. 16.

Thurman will share her personal story about caring for her late mother and discuss the need to make long-term care coverage more affordable.

All library branches to close Wednesday

All branches of the Hernando County Public Library System will be closed Wednesday to allow for staff development and training.

Libraries will resume normal hours of operation Thursday.

Free vision screenings offered Thursday

SPRING HILL -- Free vision screenings will be provided from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at The Medicine Shoppe, 2707 Forest Drive, off Commercial Way.

The service is aimed to create awareness of potential problems and to encourage early detection of eye problems, such as color blindness and glaucoma. No appointments are necessary.

Citizens Academy classes begin Thursday

BROOKSVILLE -- Space is available for those wishing to participate in the next Citizens Academy at the Hernando County Sheriff's Office on Truck Route 50.

The academy will begin Thursday, with one session from 1 to 4 p.m. and another from 6 to 9 p.m.

The class is free and open to Hernando County residents 18 and older.

Lawmaker to speak at civic group meeting

SPRING HILL -- State Rep. David Russell will be the guest speaker Thursday at the Spring Hill Civic Association meeting.
