Wharton's Dwight Ellick added another award to his trophy case when the Florida Dairy Farmers chose him as Florida's Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Ellick, previously named the Class 4A athlete of the year, won state titles in the 100 and 200 meters in 10.60 and 21.35 seconds, respectively.

Ellick's 163 points edged out Class A athlete of the year Reggie Quinn of Port St. Joe (151 points).

Class 2A athlete of the year Daniel Soule of Pensacola Catholic (149 points) finished third, and 3A athlete of the year Matthew Cianculli of Flagler Palm Coast (145 points) was fourth.

The voting was done by a panel comprised of Florida Athletic Coaches Association members and statewide media representatives.

Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson coach David Bowden was chosen as the coach of the year.

Bowden, whose team won the Class 4A state championship, won with 148 points, edging 2A coach of the year Ron Hall of Suwanee (146 points).

Willie McDonald, the 3A coach of the year was third with 142 points, followed by Class A coach of the year Vernon Eppinette of Port St. Joe (140 points).

Ellick and Bowden will be honored with overall winners from the 19 other FHSAA-sanctioned sports along with scholar athletes and Special Olympians at a banquet June 23 at SeaWorld Orlando and televised by Sunshine Network.
