Woman accused of hitting another woman with car
PINELLAS PARK -- A woman was arrested early Saturday and accused of intentionally striking another Pinellas Park woman with a car, police said.
The incident occurred about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, when Lola Jean Spotts, 24, drove her 1996 Ford Taurus to the home of Dawn Lynn Vaughn, 5828 92nd Ave. N, and hit Vaughn with her car, police said. Spotts then got out of her car and hit Vaughn, 27, over the head with a beer bottle, police said.
Pinellas Park police stopped Spotts at ParkSide Mall minutes later as Spotts tried to return to her home at 3920 78th Ave. N., No. 17. She denied she went to Vaughn's home, but police arrested her on charges of attempted homicide with a motor vehicle and aggravated battery.
According to jail records, Spotts is being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $70,000 bail.
SEMINOLE -- A Largo man hit by a car Friday while fleeing police has been released from the hospital, but faces charges of resisting an officer without violence, carrying a concealed firearm and violating probation.
Hugh I. Mills Jr., 21, was hit by a Jeep Cherokee Friday afternoon after a sheriff's deputy stopped a truck he was riding in because it had a broken brake light.
Mills jumped out of the truck and ran across the street while the deputy was checking identification of other people in the truck. The Jeep struck Mills at the intersection of Park Boulevard and Starkey Road, and he suffered a broken leg and other injuries when he was hit by the Jeep.
Deputies found that Mills was wanted on outstanding felony warrants for marijuana possession and violating probation. According to jail records, he was being held without bail at the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday.
Mills no longer lives at an address printed in Saturday's Times, according to the man who now lives there. The address was supplied by sheriff's deputies.
The Florida Board of Medicine disciplined two Tampa Bay-area doctors Saturday at its meeting in Fort Lauderdale.
Dr. Carl Fromhagen of Clearwater was suspended from practicing medicine for one year and was fined $3,000. He was accused of failing to order a biopsy after a patient complained of a lump in her breast. The patient had cancer and later needed surgery to remove the breast.
After his suspension, Fromhagen will be on probation for two years. He must go through 10 hours of continuing medical education in risk management and ethics, and must take a medical records course.
Dr. Robert Schoenfeld, a radiologist in Crystal River, was fined $2,500 and given a letter of concern from the board. He also was ordered to pay $1,165 to reimburse the state for the costs of the investigation.
Schoenfeld was accused of mistakenly putting the results of a medical test in the wrong patient's file in December 1998. As a result, a cardiac catheterization was performed on the wrong patient, said Pamela King of the Board of Medicine.
