Members of Lutz Boy Scout Troop 12 recently completed their 150-mile bicycling trips to earn the Cycling Merit Badge, one of the requirements for Eagle Scout.
On May 20, 13 boys ages 12 to 15, seven leaders and one 10-year-old girl rode 50 miles in less than six hours on the Withlacoochee State Trail. This is the first time in more than 25 years that Troop 12 has earned this merit badge.
The troop camped at Silver Lake along the trail, so they could begin at 6:30 a.m.
Scoutmaster for Troop 12 is Don Genovese, and the assistant is Bob Jackson. The troop has approximately 45 boys.
