Lake reportsBy Compiled by Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published June 4, 2000 WEST LAKE TOHOPEKLIA: Robbie Robinson of Big Toho marina reports bass catches have been best on the south end of the lake using prop baits early and then plastic worms. "Fisherman are casting Texas rigged worms in red shad green glitter or june bug to the hydrilla edges," Robinson said. LAKE ROUSSEAU: Lou Bussiere of Anglers Family resort reports bass in the lake are being caught on live wild shiners and plastic worms. Bussiere recommends fishing plastic worms in red shad or june bug around the stumps and watch for schooling fish: "They will eat just about any topwater you want to throw." LAKE OKEECHOBEE: Dan Marsocci of Fastbreak Bait & Tackle reports water level in the lake is low. Bass are being caught in open water fishing a dark-colored worm around grass. Anglers chasing pan fish are catching bream in Harney Pond and specks are being caught in the river. Crickets and worms are best for bream; minnows for specks. LAKE KISSIMMEE: Scott Snively of Camp Mack reports bass are being caught on outside hydrilla edges by flipping a june bug worm or crawdad. The area around marker 9 has been active. Specks continue biting on minnows around the channels and in the open water. "Bream and shellcrackers are bedding and continue eating up crickets and wigglers," Snively said. LAKE TARPON: Chris Dance at Tarpon Toms Bait & Tackle reports bass are hitting rattling crankbaits and plastic worms in dark colors. Dance recommends fishing in 6-8 feet around hydrilla. Bream and shellcrackers have also been feeding. Local anglers report catching their limits on crickets and wigglers. Fish around submerged points that have hard bottoms.
