Italian Culture Night scheduled for Aug. 24

BROOKSVILLE -- An Italian Culture Night is planned for Aug. 24 at the Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place, off Darby Lane.

Participants are needed at the event to display artwork, give poetry readings, tell stories, provide ethnic food, music or dance. Those interested are asked to contact Emilia at 544-5498. Display booths are available; the cost is $5 to display only or $10 for those selling items.

The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m.; it is free to youths ages 17 and younger and $1 for adults.

Free plane rides available at Young Eagles Rally

BROOKSVILLE -- The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1298 will host a Young Eagles Rally at the Hernando Airport on Saturday.

The event will give youth from ages 8-17 free airplane rides. Also, pilots will explain how airplanes work, and how pilots ensure safety before every flight.

Following the flight, each youth will receive a certificate making them an official "Young Eagle." Their names will also be entered into the World's Largest Logbook, which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, Wis. The logbook is also available on the Internet at http://www.youngeagles.com.

The Hernando County Airport is off Broad Street, south of Spring Hill Drive.

Library youth programsscheduled for Friday

Children ages 5-12 are invited to participate in the Hernando County Public Library System's annual Florida Library Youth Program, "Start at the Library/Go Anywhere."

Two programs are scheduled for Friday: 10:15 a.m. in the West Hernando/Foggia Branch Library, 6335 Blackbird Ave., Spring Hill; and 1:30 p.m. in the Lykes Memorial Library, 238 Howell Ave., Brooksville.

There will be activities and visits from characters such as Jiggle Man, Marty the Magician, the Mashed Potato Players, the Fritzy Brothers One Man Circus and more.

Registration on Friday for church's food program

HUDSON -- Hudson First United Methodist Church will conduct its monthly SHARE registration from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday in the education building, 13123 U.S. 19. Distribution will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. June 23.

SHARE is a food distribution program available to anyone; there are no income requirements.

Food packages valued from $25-$30 will be provided for $14, paid in cash or food stamps, plus two hours of community/church service.

Class helps couples prepare for marriage

BROOKSVILLE -- A marriage preparation class will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. June 18 and 19 in the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service, 19490 Oliver St.

There is a $10 registration fee per couple.

Couples must attend both evening workshops to receive a certificate of completion. The classes fulfill the requirements of Florida Statute 741, Marriage Preparation and Preservation Act.

A $32.50 discount on the marriage license is given to couples who complete the class and the waiting period required when applying for a license is waived. To receive a pre-registration form, call the Extension Service at 754-4433.
