Xpress, the Coolest Section of the St. Petersburg Times, is the home for features, news and views of interest to young readers. Most of the work in Xpress, which appears on Mondays in Floridian, is produced by the Times' X-Team. The team of journalists ages 9-17 from around the Tampa Bay area is selected every year at the end of the school year to serve during the following school term. The current team of 12 was chosen out of 150 applicants. Watch for X-Team application forms in Xpress during the month of May.

Jammin' with the Mouse

The Walt Disney World Summer Jam Concert airs Sunday at 7 p.m. on ABC (WFTS-Ch. 28). The Baha Men, Dream, Shaggy, Sugar Ray and BBMak will perform as well as share their Top 10 lists of what's hot to do this summer.

Rays batboy in SI for Kids

Sixteen-year-old Jesse Litsch of Pinellas Park is profiled in the June issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids. He's part of a feature called "How'd You Get That Job?" Jesse has a job as one of the batboys for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball team. Last summer he was an intern with the team, doing office work and running errands.

'MTV Movie Awards' airs Thursday

The 2001 MTV Movie Awards premieres Thursday at 9 p.m. The show is hosted by Kirsten Dunst (Bring It On) and Jimmy Fallon (Saturday Night Live). Presenters include the Rock, Aaliyah and Tara Reid

St. Petersburg girl wins cook-off

Christina Banks, who was profiled in Xpress last month after she became a finalist in the Tyson chicken "Now You're Cooking Smart" contest, has been chosen as the national winner! Christina, a 12-year-old seventh-grader at Keswick Christian School in St. Petersburg, recently participated in Tyson's chicken cook-off in New York City and received a $10,000 scholarship.

Snackin' with 'N Sync

'N Sync is featured on boxes of Brach's Hot Hits fruit snacks. Some of the snacks are shaped like the 'N Sync logo, and some are juice-filled hearts decorated with each guy's name. Inside each $2.49 box is a replica backstage pass. 'N Sync's next album, Celebrity, is slated for a July 24 release. The group is in concert July 31 at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium.
