BRIEFS:The "Summer Food Service Program for Children" will be hosted at school sites throughout the county from June 18 through July 13. All children 18 years and younger are eligible for a lunch at no charge. Those participating should sign in at the school office before going to the cafeteria. West Pasco School sites are: Anclote Elementary, Calusa Elementary, Chasco Elementary, Fox Hollow Elementary, Giella Elementary, Gulfside Elementary, Hudson Elementary, Locke Elementary, Marlowe Elementary, Moon Lake Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Richey Elementary, Schrader Elementary, Shady Hills Elementary, Sunray Elementary and Gulf Middle. * * * The Hudson Middle School Media Center will be open to the general public from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday from June 18 to July 13. Trained staff will be on hand to assist students, parents and the public with searching the Internet, video editing and obtaining materials for students. Leslie Acreman was named winner of the Pasco County Teen Pregnancy Awareness essay contest. Gulf Middle School sixth-grader Kiki El-Hout was named second-place winner in the Tropicana Speech contest held at Mitchell High School. Amanda Johnson received an honorable mention. Justin Bandino, a JROTC Cadet from River Ridge High School, was named winner of the Sons of American Revolution contest. These Gulf High students placed in the Florida Association of Students of German contest held in Daytona: Brittany Wood, second in poetry; Mary Karnstedt, second in 3-D project; Cassi Long and Amber Rau, third in poetry; and Mary Karnstedt, fourth in German conversation. First grader Beverly Lorraine Becker was named a Student of the Month at Hudson Elementary School. The following Deer Park Elementary students won first place in the Pasco County District Book Battle Contest: Meaghan Jameson, Bradley Chapman, Kaitlin Davis, Gabrielle Fisher, Daniel Rappoli and Amanda Ratajczak. Amanda Massicotte, a senior at Ridgewood High School, is one of 24 students in Florida to win the First Lady's Art Recognition Scholarship for Music. Richey Elementary School May students of the month: Paige Winters, Hunter Winters, Ian McCall, Katherine Naclerio, Richard Pollard, Marshall Stitt, Danny Mac Dougall and Robert Zblewski. Young Scientist Fair winners from Seven Springs Elementary School: Cody Slaughter, McKenzie Sluder and Rachel Schenk, first place; and Alexander Ehrenberg, Amy Petrella, Christopher Johnson, Jo-Maynn Bartle and Wesley Houck, third place. The following fourth- and fifth-graders won first place overall in the state, in the "Stock Market Game" sponsored by Raymond James Financial Planners: Billie Caldwell, Amanda Hyams, Matt Merrill, Anthony Presti and Chris Schaumburger. These students placed second in elementary competition: Lauren Fontaine, Ryan Halley, George Savvas and Craig Scutro. County Level Science Fair Winners from Anclote Elementary: Jessica Tamburri, Deanna Smagala, Sierah Ayala and Valerie Ciofalo, first place; Travis Madonna, Sierra Mision and Rosemarie Gilmartin, second place; and Michael Jones, third place. Sixth-grade winners of the schoolwide speech contest at Hudson Middle: Krystyn Vitale, first place; Robbie Obenreder, second place; and Elle Agosta, third place. Seventh- and eighth-graders: Kris Bucher, Nicole Bamberski and Brian Smith, first place; Ryan Obenreder, Shoshannah Kadinger, Nenia Rush and Alyssa Bolich, second place; and Kaylynn Lamerton and Christi Bowdoin, third place. In the district contest, Brian Smith placed first and Robbie Obenreder and Nicole Bamberski placed third. Gulf Middle paraprofessional Silvana Krulj has been named a recipient of a scholarship from the English Speakers of Other Language Aspire Program. Locke Elementary District Science Fair Winners: Brittany Motta, first place; Robert Fahrer, Maxwell White and Nick Gunther, second place; and Casey Banken, Matt Martinez, Matt Mooney and Justin Wisniewski, third place. Gabrielle Bahnmuller, Nick Delgardo, Nhi Le, Parsah Razdar, Jamie Diehl, Josh Nutter, Crystal Matthews and Robert Faher raised $297.65 in the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital Math-a-thon. In seven years, the school has raised $8,000 for the cause. Bayonet Point Middle School was selected as the Section II winner of the 2000-2001 FHSAA Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award for the fifth year in a row.
