COACHING: Two boys coaches recently resigned at St. Petersburg Catholic.

Baseball coach Mike Hoffman, 30, has accepted a job as assistant athletic director, baseball coach and math teacher at Naples St. John Neumann.

Hoffman, who taught math at SPC, led the Barons to a 52-62 record in four seasons, including 17-13 this year. SPC's season ended in the district semifinals with a 4-1 loss to eventual state champion Tampa Catholic.

"I've enjoyed it here, and I'm looking to pursue a new opportunity," Hoffman said.

Soccer coach Will Spencer resigned after a little more than one season at the helm. SPC athletic director Joe Molloy said Spencer is looking to spend more time with his family but will remain on staff as a history teacher.

Molloy will accept applications for both jobs until June 15 and he said he hopes to hire new coaches by July 15.

BASKETBALL: The Pinellas Players, a 13-and-under boys team, recently finished third in the AAU state tournament at the Disney Sports Complex.

The Players finished pool play 2-1, defeating the No. 1 seed in the process. The team qualified for the AAU national tournament in Memphis, Tenn.

FOOTBALL: Five SPC players have signed. Three of the Barons have received full scholarships: fullback Adam Gorman with Florida International, defensive back Larry Woods with Bethune-Cookman and defensive lineman Steve Williams with Concord (W.Va.) College, a Division II school.

Two SPC players received financial grants to play at non-scholarship programs. Wide receiver/long snapper Nick Pettit will play for Division III Norwich (Vt.), and offensive lineman Dave Henriott will play for I-AA Jacksonville.
