Orlando rolls over Detroit by 21
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Orlando dominated Detroit in every statistical category on the way to a 92-71 victory.
Nykesha Sales scored 19 Tuesday night as Orlando beat Detroit for the fourth straight time.
The Miracle outshot Detroit 50 percent to 31, outscoring the Shock 54-14 in the paint and holding a 39-33 edge in rebounding.
"We really finally all clicked today," Orlando coach Carolyn Peck said. "In training camp I asked them to play a new offense and a new defense.
"We've done some things very well, but all the mistakes have been correctable. It seemed we corrected them all tonight."
Rookie Deanna Nolan led Detroit with 12 points. The only other Shock player in double figures was Elena Tournikidou with 10.
Elaine Powell had a career-high 16, Taj McWilliams-Franklin had 14 and 12 rebounds, and Jessie Hicks had 12 for Orlando.
WASHINGTON 75, SACRAMENTO 72: The host Mystics rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit. Chamique Holdsclaw took over in the final three minutes, drawing a foul on a triple team, making a contested 14-foot jumper and scoring on an offensive rebound in a 6-0 run that broke a 69-69 tie. She scored 19 and had 12 rebounds.
HOUSTON 72, UTAH 68: Janeth Arcain scored a career-high 27, including eight in the last 2:03 after the Starzz had taken its first lead (66-64) on Adrienne Goodson's two free throws with 2:36 left. Houston won its third straight road game after opening with a home loss to Los Angeles.
MIAMI 63, INDIANA 61: Elena Baranova blocked Rita Williams' shot with 1.9 seconds left to preserve the win for the host Sol, who saw a 13-point lead cut to three with 10 seconds left when Stephanie McCarty hit a three-pointer.
PHOENIX 76, CHARLOTTE 69: Bridget Pettis scored 11 of her 15 in the second half to lead the host Mercury. Earlier, Phoenix waived point guard Michelle Cleary.
