Waterfront goes Caribbean
The eighth annual Tampa Bay Caribbean Carnival will fill St. Petersburg's waterfront with music from popular Caribbean bands, food of the islands, art, dance and cultural exhibits on Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days. Stilt dancers from Miami, above, will join in the festivities.
A costume parade begins at noon Saturday at the Bayfront Center and is expected to enter Vinoy Park about 2:30 p.m. Continuous music is scheduled each day, including a Sunday performance by the Baha Men. Admission each day is $5 for adults; children get in free.
The festival also will have two nighttime events in Ybor City. A kickoff party Friday night at Frankie's Patio, 1920 E Seventh Ave., will feature performances by Sensation, Deja and DJ Trotman Soundship. Admission is $10 advance, $15 at the door.
The Caribbean Festival Extravaganza is at the Cuban Club, 2010 Avenida Republica de Cuba, Saturday night with performers Alison Hinds & Square One, Leon Caldero, Anslem Doublas, Deja, DJ Trotman Soundship and DJ Dorenzo. Tickets are $20 advance, $25 at the door.
