Put on your favorite Hawaiian shirt and a Panama hat and head over to the Homosassa Riverside Resort on Saturday for some acoustic-style island music.
Folk-rockers Sunny Jim White and Jim Morris bring their Gulf Coast Highway Tour to Homosassa for a concert Saturday that will be recorded for an upcoming live CD. The tour stop is sponsored by the Parrot Heads of Citrus, the local Jimmy Buffett fan club.
White and Morris are popular performers with the beach music scene, and they perform frequently for Parrot Heads organizations, which are Jimmy Buffett fan clubs. White performed at the Parrot Heads of Citrus disaster relief fundraiser on May 19 and also was the featured performer for the Parrot Heads national convention.
Sunny Jim White lived for 12 years in the Cayman Islands, and his music reflects the themes and rhythms of the islands. His first CD Postcards From Seven Mile Beach was followed by three others in the same style, featuring music that blends mainland folk with island rhythms. His newest CD is Tropical Trader.
"Me and Jim are basically story-teller type of songwriters, and for this tour, it's just going to be us and our acoustic guitars," Sunny Jim White said.
White said he credits Jimmy Buffett as a career mentor.
"In Buffett's book, A Pirate Looks At 50, he wrote a chapter, called Island Girls, about my twin daughters," Sunny Jim White said.
Jim Morris, a Charlotte Harbor resident, also performs the beach music favored by the Hawaiian shirt-wearing Parrot Head audience. His first CD Laid Back and Key Wasted was followed by Bocanuts and Barstools and Beach Chairs. His latest CD, released in March is Live Bait.
The concert will be held at the convention room in the Riverside Resort, 5297 S Cherokee Way in Old Homosassa. Admission is $5. Call 628-2474.
