Here is something to shoot for: The Rays are last in the American League in runs scored and runs allowed. In the past 50 years, three AL teams have finished last in both categories: the 1963 Senators, the 1973 Rangers and the 1988 Orioles. Every team has to have its goals.
Ryan Rupe
Rupe (2-5, 8.50) makes his third start since being recalled from Triple-A Durham. He is 0-1 with a 6.99 ERA since returning. Opponents are hitting .324 off Rupe with eight home runs in 421/3 innings. He is 1-2 in his career in six interleague starts. He has never faced the Mets.
Trachsel (1-6, 8.24) returns to Tropicana Field for the first time since the Rays traded him to Toronto in July. Trachsel got off to a horrific start with the Mets and was sent to Triple-A Norfolk to work out his problems. Trachsel was recalled Thursday.
