The Tournament of Champions is under way for District 5 and 12.
In District 12, which encompasses north Pinellas County, senior baseball and all softball will be double-elimination. Major and junior baseball will be pool play followed by a tournament.
Defending major baseball champs Largo American lost to Palm Harbor National 9-5 in Pool A. Dunedin National leads Pool A at 2-0. Other unbeatens in major baseball include Dunedin American (Pool B), Tarpon Springs and Countryside (Pool C) and West Pasco (Pool D).
In junior baseball, defending champs Palm Harbor National has jumped out to a 2-0 record with wins over Hudson, 5-0, and Largo American, 10-0.
In senior baseball, Largo, Safety Harbor, West Pasco and Holiday won first-round games. In major softball, Dunedin faces Oldsmar and Safety Harbor National and East Lake meet in third-round action. Defending champion Countryside lost to Oldsmar.
Third-round action in junior softball will feature Palm Harbor playing the winner of tonight's game between Dunedin and Countryside. District 5 has double-elimination tournaments in all leagues.
In major softball, defending champion Southwest won its first two games. In its 11-1 win over Gulfport, Melissa Milroy pitched a one-hitter and had three hits and three runs scored. Katelyn Perna also had three hits and added four RBI.
In junior softball, Cross Bayou, Pinellas Park National, Baypoint and Northeast won their first-round games.
In major baseball, defending champs Southwest is out. Azalea will play Baypoint and Northeast will play Cross Bayou in the winner's bracket.
