The skies of north Tampa become a kaleidoscope as the Carrollwood Balloon Fest takes off this evening. The two-day event takes place at Lake Park, off N Dale Mabry Highway (north of Bearss Avenue) in north Tampa.
A Balloon Glow and food festival are from 5 to 11 p.m. today.
On Saturday, the balloons launch, starting at 5:30 a.m. and will be in the sky until 3 p.m.
If you go, remember that parking is limited at Lake Park. Organizers are asking visitors to allow ample time to park off-site and ride a free shuttle to the festivities. No stopping or parking is allowed on Dale Mabry.
Parking will be available off Dale Mabry at the HARTline Park-n-Ride and Seminole Electric. Parking will also be available at Hollywood Theaters at Van Dyke Road and Dale Mabry. Disabled access to the park will be through the Wirley Road entrance.
On Saturday, there will also be lots of activities for kids, including a petting zoo, pony rides, kids play zone and climbing wall.
Cost is $2 for both days. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local scholarships.
