Belly (dance) up to the bar and help a guv'na candidate

LUTZ -- Question: What do professional wrestlers, belly dancers, golfers and preteens have in common?

Answer: All are being lured into this month's guv'na events, which are hitting full stride.

For the uninitiated, guv'na is an annual fundraising competition in Lutz. The winner is named guv'na following the Lutz July 4 parade. The guv'na gets a top hat and sash and is Lutz's mock chief of state for a year.

Money raised by all candidates, which totaled $17,050 last year, is distributed to the community's most cherished causes.

Here are the events so far:

Today Lemonade stand for Larry Solomonson, 4-7 p.m., Winn-Dixie, U.S. 41 at Sunset Lane.

William Nehls tends bar 5-10 p.m. at Dusty's Grill, U.S. 41 at Sunset Lane. His tips go into the guv'na fund.

Saturday Firefighters collect for Connie Bowen, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Publix at N Dale Mabry Highway and Van Dyke Road.

Sunday Spaghetti lunch for Larry Solomonson, $5. Carryout available. 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Lutz Community Center, 100 First St. NW.

Belly dance show with band for Vince Arcuri, 4-5:30 p.m., Lakeside Grill, 4422 Land O'Lakes Blvd., Land O'Lakes. Featuring Kadayif's Studio for Middle Eastern Dance and rock band Darwin's Tatoo. Suggested donation: $5.

Every Thursday Luncheon for Larry Solomonson, $4. Noon-1:30 p.m., Lutz Community Center, 100 First St. NW.

Thursday Candidates' "debate." 7 p.m., Lutz Community Center.

June 17 Yard sale for Larry Solomonson, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Old Lutz Schoolhouse, 18819 U.S. 41 N.

June 24 Golf tournament and lunch for William Nehls, beginning at 7:30 a.m., Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club, I-75 at State Road 52. Lunch at Dusty's Grill. $60. Call 948-1117 for reservations.

Vince Arcuri is "locked up" at 10 a.m. at ERA Dennis Realty, 1022 Land O'Lakes Blvd., until donors contribute $2,000.

Barbecue and dance for Connie Bowen at Nye Park, 630 Sunset Lane. Chicken dinners, 5-7 p.m., $5. Preteen dance, 7-10 p.m. $2.

June 25 Picnic and birthday party for Larry Solomonson, 4-7 p.m, 527 Second Ave. SW
