$200,000 Mega Money payout unclaimedBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published June 9, 2000 A Mega Money winner has missed out on a nearly $200,000 prize, Lottery officials said Thursday. No one stepped forward to claim the ticket that was bought in December from a Gulfport convenience store. The deadline was midnight Wednesday. Last month, state lottery officials began a search for the winner by placing ads in Tampa Bay area newspapers, determined to give the money to its rightful owner. The ticket was bought at Circle S, 2201 49th St. S in Gulfport, on Dec. 10. Winners have 180 days to claim winnings. But since no one claimed the $198,484 jackpot, the money will go into a pool of money used for other prizes and promotions, officials said. This is the second time in Mega Money history that a ticket has gone unclaimed. Two years ago, the state kept a $173,617 prize. © St. Petersburg Times. All rights reserved. |
