Hal McRae came into Friday's game with a 12-33 record since taking over. Despite the Rays' winning about once every four times out, McRae isn't discouraged. In fact, he said he sees it getting better -- not that it could get much worse. "I have to see a light (at the end of the tunnel)," McRae said. "Why would I be here if I didn't see a light?"

The pitchers

Tanyon Sturtze

Sturtze (2-5, 5.43) seems to have found a groove since moving into the rotation May 2. He has recorded consecutive quality starts and is 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA during those two games. Against Seattle on Sunday, Sturtze retired the final seven batters he faced.

Al Leiter

Leiter (3-3, 3.99) won his last start 7-1 over Florida, giving up one run on five hits in 61/3 innings. Last year he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA against Tampa Bay, winning his only start at Shea Stadium. In his career, Leiter is 2-0 with a 1.83 ERA against the Rays.
