Clearwater cruiser, civilian car collide
CLEARWATER -- A police cruiser and another car collided at an intersection Friday night, but neither driver was seriously hurt.
The crash occurred at about 7:50 p.m. at Cleveland Street and Hercules Avenue. Police were investigating to see which driver was at fault.
The marked police cruiser was on routine patrol, northbound on Hercules, when it collided with the other vehicle, which was westbound on Cleveland. Both cars veered off the road and into nearby yards, said Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor.
The police officer was treated at Morton Plant Hospital. The other driver, a man in his 30s, was flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center.
He was airlifted for precautionary reasons, Shelor said, and paramedics said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
TAMPA -- A Delta Air Lines 767 bound for New York City lost power in one engine shortly after takeoff from Tampa International Airport on Friday afternoon but returned to the field and landed safely.
Fire equipment was dispatched to meet Flight 1496, with 261 passengers and crew aboard, but it landed without incident. Passengers boarded other flights.
It was not immediately known what caused the engine to fail. The flight left TIA at 1:35 p.m., bound for LaGuardia Airport.
TAMPA -- The city's water plant returned to full capacity Friday, four days after a chlorine leak partially shut it down for repairs.
Water department spokeswoman India Williams said the Hillsborough River Water Treatment Facility was pumping at a level of about 50-million gallons a day Friday morning, and 70-million gallons by the afternoon, with the capability of pumping up to 80-million gallons.
The city's next lawn-watering day, Sunday, will remain unaffected.
"Of course, I'd like to remind folks that if it's raining, they could just as easily skip that watering day," Williams said.
