Antonette "Nettie" Paulina Mentzel DeLara, born June 8, 1896, in Stade, West Germany, celebrated her 105th birthday recently. Her parents were Milchior and Antonia Woytkowiak Mentzel. She came to the United States in about 1943 and lived in Atlantic City, N.J., for about 34 years before moving to St. Petersburg sometime around 1977.

Her working days were spent in the hotel and restaurant business. After retirement, she volunteered at various senior centers and at Pinellas Association for Retarded Children until age 90.

She is a member of St. Mary our Lady of Grace Church.

She and Pepe DeLara had two daughters. Her surviving daughter, Hilda F. Burns, lives in Philadelphia.
