Focus on volunteers

The Volunteer Action Center has compiled a Summer Youth Volunteer Guide for young people interested in working this summer with a Pinellas County non-profit agency. The guide includes an agency description, contact names and phone numbers. For information, call Antoinette Siebens at 550-4035.

The ASAP Homeless Services Inc., 423 11th Ave. S, St. Petersburg, an organization which provides housing and necessities to the homeless, needs volunteers to serve coffee and snacks, as well as to stock supplies and assist with laundry. For information, call the organization at 823-5665.

Pinellas Association for Retarded Children needs volunteers at its Resale Store, 5825 66th St. N, St. Petersburg. Helpers are needed to greet customers, sort and stock merchandise and tag priced items. For information, call Elliot Rakofsky at 345-9111, ext. 374.

The Christmas Toy Shop, 550 16th St. N, St. Petersburg, needs volunteers to sort, wash and repair used toys. The organization also needs bicycles, tricycles and scooters. For information, call Nadean Jensen at 898-3962.

True Expressions, a non-profit organization that provides peer support, educational programs and social activities for young people dealing with sexual orientation issues, is looking for volunteers. Opportunities include weekly peer support group meetings, fund-raising, and setting up and running a new drop-in center in St. Petersburg. For information, leave a message on the organization's beeper at 553-8783.
