Man arrested on child sex abuse charges
LARGO -- A 31-year-old man was arrested Monday on several child sex abuse charges. Richard B. Demarest, 2070 62nd St., was arrested Monday evening on four charges of capital sexual battery and one charge of lewd and lascivious behavior, according to arrest reports. Demarest is accused of sexually abusing two girls, both under the age of 12, in the fall of 1999, Largo police reported. Demarest has admitted the crimes, police said.
CLEARWATER -- A homeless man was arrested Tuesday and charged with stealing beer from a home. Todd David Berry, 36, was charged with burglary and felony theft. He is accused of entering the unlocked front door of the home, 518 Jones St., about 1:45 a.m., then leaving with five cans of Natural Ice Beer, police reported. Berry has at least two prior theft convictions, police reported. The person living at the residence saw Berry leaving the area, police said. He was arrested about a half-hour later. Three cans of beer were recovered.
