JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi State coach Pat McMahon resigned, and the Associated Press reported he is headed to Florida after leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament in each of his four seasons.

Mississippi State athletic director Larry Templeton said he met with McMahon on Monday and Tuesday, but he would not confirm a move across the Southeastern Conference. Templeton said Florida asked for permission to speak with the 48-year-old coach and that McMahon had met with Gators officials. Phone messages left at McMahon's home were not returned.

The Associated Press also reported that Florida will announce McMahon's hiring at a news conference today.

Florida fired coach Andy Lopez after a 35-27 season.
