BROOKSVILLE -- The Withlacoochee River Basin Board has adopted a tentative budget of $9,912,385 for fiscal 2001, up $184,191 from the past year. Its millage rate would remain at 29.8 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. However, homeowners whose assessments have risen can expect to pay more than they did this year. Taxes on a $100,000 home with a $25,000 homestead exemption would be $22.35. The board has set its first budget public hearing for 5 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Southwest Florida Water Management District Tampa office, and its second hearing for 5 p.m. Sept. 26 at Swiftmud's Brooksville headquarters. The budget includes $628,322 toward the restoration of Lake Panasoffkee and $65,829 for the development of alternative water sources.
