Boy's death prompts school to create fund

LARGO -- Officials at Oakhurst Elementary School set up a trust fund Wednesday for the family of 10-year-old Darius Hurst.

Hurst, who was an Oakhurst Elementary School honor-roll student, died Friday after a severe asthma attack.

School guidance counselor Susan Walker said school officials decided to set up the fund after several teachers and parents asked what they could do to help. Money from the fund will be used to help the family pay for the funeral and other expenses.

People can mail donations to: the Darius Hurst Memorial Fund, c/o Bank of America, 12046 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774. Or they can make donations in person at any Bank of America branch.
