Times story on building defects is honoredBy Times staff writer
© St. Petersburg Times, Collins Conner, a reporter in the St. Petersburg Times' Port Richey bureau, received a first-place award from the National Association of Real Estate Editors for her March 2000 story, "Nightmare Dream Home," which documented construction defects in Tampa Bay area homes during a time of record home building. The award came in the category of "Best Newspaper Report" among newspapers with circulations over 200,000. Winners were selected by a panel of judges from the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. The judges commented, "The reporter is to be complimented for . . . providing information that many prospective home owners could never find elsewhere." Conner received a certificate and a check for $250 from the association, the only specialty journalism group for reporters and editors who cover real estate. More than 200 journalists competed in 15 categories for awards in the 51st annual competition. The awards were presented last weekend in Salt Lake City at the organization's annual conference. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
