Golf

Crystal River graduate and Western Carolina golfer Rebecca Twiner came back to earth after winning her first tournament on the State Farm Collegiate Players Tour, finishing in a tie for seventh in this week's event at The Club at Eaglebrooke in Lakeland.

Twiner, who won by two strokes last week in Myrtle Beach, S.C., tied with Carrie Sordel of Windermere in a three-day total of 245. Crystal Elliers, Charlotte, La., captured the event title by three strokes with a 230.

Twiner was just two shots off the pace Monday but fell back after carding an 86 in Tuesday's second round. She rebounded with a 78 on Wednesday.

Inverness Golf and Country Club will have its annual Firecracker Golf Championships on June 30-July 1.

The tournament is comprised of two-person teams in men's and women's divisions playing under a best-ball (with handicap) format. For information, call (352) 637-2526.

Physicals

Lecanto High has scheduled sports physicals for the upcoming school year on July 31 at 6 p.m. in the school's gym.

Volleyball

The Citrus County Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for teams interested in participating in its coed sand league. Teams must contact the department by Monday to secure a spot.

Fees are based on the number of squads participating. A minimum of four teams is required. League play will begin June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Bicentennial Park.
