A comedy for young audiences based on the children's books by Peggy Parish, Come Back, Amelia Bedelia, makes a stop later this month at the Ocala Civic Theatre.
The play follows the wacky job experiences of Amelia Bedelia as she tries to find her career in one job after another. She's a fine person, but just has a little problem with figuring out what her boss wants.
For example, the hotel manager asks her to check the sheets, and she does -- literally. She gets a red marker and covers lots of sheets with red check marks. Amelia bounces from job to job, eventually getting fired from each, until she winds up with a suitable career.
Come Back, Amelia Bedelia will be performed at 7:30 p.m. June 29, and at 2:15 and 7:30 p.m. June 30. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. Call the box office at (352) 236-2274.
In other events at Ocala Civic Theatre, an actors studio, stage manager's workshop and the annual awards banquet are coming up.
The theater's 29th annual awards banquet begins at 6 p.m Saturday at the theater. A silent auction, a pre-awards dinner show, a buffet and awards ceremony are planned. Tickets are $20. Call the box office for reservations.
An ongoing acting class focusing on preparing actors for auditions and shows begins this Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the theater. The first four classes will be on a trial basis. If enough interest continues, they will be ongoing. Classes are open to anyone 16 and older and are free.
A stage manager's workshop, which offers instruction on the behind-the-scenes job involved in each production, will be from 9 to 6 p.m. June 26 at the theater. The workshop is free.
Ocala Civic Theatre is at 4337 E Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. The box office telephone is (352) 236-2274.
