ST. PETERSBURG -- The city's cost for ousting former St. Petersburg Assistant police Chief Buddy San Marco has topped half a million dollars.

After being forced to retire in 1997 by former Chief Darryl Stephens, San Marco sued, claiming age discrimination. He won $376,870 from the city in damages, a judgment upheld last month by an appellate court.

Thursday, the City Council agreed to pay San Marco $130,000 for his attorney's fees and the costs of bringing the suit.
