Armwood investigation might end next weekBy KEITH NIEBUHR © St. Petersburg Times, published June 16, 2000 TAMPA -- The investigation into whether Armwood recruited two-sport athlete Keith Watts from King is nearing an end, and a ruling could be made next week, Florida High School Activities Association associate commissioner Dan Boyd said Thursday. Boyd interviewed Armwood principal Ken Allen and King principal Richard Bartels on Wednesday at their respective schools. No one else was interviewed. "I've collected as much information as I can," Boyd said. King claims Armwood assistant football coach Matt Thompson picked up Watts from a convenience store directly across the street from King on April 24. Watts withdrew from King on April 25 and enrolled at Armwood that day. Boyd, who is awaiting confirmation of Watts' address from the Hillsborough County School District, will compile his information and hand the matter over to FHSAA commissioner Bob Hughes, who will then render a decision. "I think we can reach a resolution by the end of next week," Boyd said. © St. Petersburg Times. All rights reserved. |
