© St. Petersburg Times, CLEARWATER -- A 5-year-old boy was seriously injured Saturday in a traffic accident downtown. Carlos Cox, 5, was riding in the front passenger seat of a Kia Sephia driven by Tammy Cox, 28, of 1802 Sunset Point Road, police said. The boy was wearing a seat belt. The accident occurred about 12:15 p.m. at 1164 Drew St. when Cox, driving west, tried to turn left into a store parking lot but pulled in front of an oncoming Buick Century, said Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor. The 5-year-old was flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center and was later taken to All Children's Hospital. His condition was not available. Tammy Cox also was hospitalized, Shelor said. The Buick Century's driver was not seriously injured. No charges were filed, and the accident is under investigation. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
